I don’t care…
I don’t care…
If you have plenty of money or none at all,
If you are tall and lanky or short and stubby,
If your hair is long or short, straight or curly,
If you’ve got sharp features or a face that blends in the crowds,
If your teeth are crooked or perfectly veneered,
If your skin colour is no. 1 or 90 in the human Pantone,
If you’re young or young at heart,
If your vision is 20/20 or you are bespectacled,
If you have a MBA or a school drop out,
I especially don’t care if you prefer chicken to beef, take your coffee with sugar and cream, change your linens once a week, wash your hands more than a hundred times a day.
I. Just. Don’t. Care. Period.
But I do care…
If you are willing to do what it takes to make a change in this wicked world.
If you are willing to rise up from your circumstances and be the best you can be.
If you can respect another human being even if you don’t like them.
If you’ll speak up for those without a voice and lend an ear to those in need.
If you can keep it shut when all someone really needs is a presence; your presence.
If you show the youth the ways of life and teach right from wrong and do it with love.
If you help an ageing person with a menial task that they can do no more.
If you can pay it forward no matter how insignificant you may consider your gift to be.
If you can find it your heart to love yourself for who you are, in spite of what the world thinks you should be.
If you can be brave and courageous yet as gentle as dove.
If you are willing to take a stranger’s hand and say “I’ve got you” when you keep them from falling.
If you are willing to stand firm in what’s right, what you believe in and go against the grain even when you know you might be shunted.
You see, I’m a millennial and happy to be born in the era where we are allowed to be arrogant enough to believe that we can actually make a change. And my dear people, this is an era for change.
This is but a few things I care about. What do you care about?
