{THURSDAY TIP} Things Not To Try At Home

Who is not addicted to Pinterest? The amazing ideas and recipes you find on there is out of this world. That has become my go-to site for hairstyles and tips, outfit ideas, decor, party planning… Gosh you name it, I’ve tried it. Spent plenty of money on useless crap too. But hey, I once bought a lace front wig from Wish that caused tummy aches (from laughter off course) so I am known to waste money sometimes. I guess all the money wasted has qualified me to write this post and let you in on things not to try at home. It’s also inspired by my not so wise idea of today.

Let’s get this show on the road

1) Listerine soak for soft feet

It’s summer time and I know we all want beautifully soft and moisturiser heels. Before you try any kind of hack, especially the Listerine soak for your heels. Stop right there! Do. Not. Even. Think. Of. It. It doesn’t work. No if’s, buts or maybes. It doesn’t. A bottle of Listerine won’t break the bank so if you really want to try it, I can’t stop you but I will say “Told you so”.

Seriously though, if you want soft heels, make sure that you soak tour feet, pumice and moisturiser nightly. Invest in a pair of Gel Heel socks available at your local pharmacy. No thanks required, but you are so welcome.

2) Hair removal with Iodine and Baby oil

First off I should tell you that those two liquids do not mix. That in itself should be an indicator. It’s messy and a waste of time. Believe me I’m not talking about the time spent mixing and applying the oil blend. I’m referring to cleaning up afterwards iodine stains your skin. Ever try spray tan? Well let’s just say it’s similar to a spray tan gone wrong. Think about all those lost hours and the embarrassment with patchy orange skin.

3) Taping your breasts with medical/duct tape

This right here was my blunder of the day. This morning I realised that I don’t own one decent strapless bra. I have a few but none that made me feel comfortable. What can I say? Sports bras are more my thing. So I improvised by taping my breast with medical tape and used packing tape to go over it. Covered my nipples with the required cotton rounds and I was good to go.

In all fairness I can’t give this one a total miss because it did the trick. Unfortunately getting it off was a hassle. Luckily I had some baby oil left from my hair removal experiment and it eased the process. Why I won’t try this again anytime soon is because medical tape does not come cheap and my kids are accident prone. So I’ll stick to using it for its intended purpose. Also, the time it takes to get it on and get it all off again is a pain and let’s face it, I’m no runway model that I word have to. Neither will I have to perk up my boobies for an event where I’ll be required to wear next to nothing. I will invest in yet another strapless bra that I’ll probably never wear. I told you, sometimes I waste money.

4) Homemade foot detoxing (Epsom salt, bicarb, sea salt and water mix)

Lastly, and because I’m obsessed with my feet, is the foot detox. Apparently the water is supposed to turn dark. The darker the solution goes the more toxins was released from your body.

Absolute hogwash! The wayer does noy change colour. Again, don’t bother with that experiment. Tried and tested and as much as I’d like to believe that my body is toxin free, the amount of junk I place in my mouth daily is a good indicator that I need to detox regularly.

Before you decide to ignore it completely… Epsom salts make for a good foot soak. It’s the most cost effective way of relieving achy feet at the end of the day and relaxing. Please try this. We do it regularly.

There you have it… A quick list of Pinterest fails. I didn’t bother elaborating on all the details because why reinvent the wheel if it doesn’t work. I do need you to make a mental note of what not to try at home or at least what you can expect. Again, you’re welcome. And you have full permission to laugh at me for being so gullible.
